Travel Stories, Road Trip to Dalhousie and Khajjiar Road

If you have read or watched my Mcleodganj Road Trip Travelogue post and video, then you would know that next up was this vlog, i.e., Dalhousie and Khajjiar! Our trip did not end in McLeodganj, here I’ll continue from the morning after Christmas, the day we had to check out from Fortune Park Moksha.

After witnessing a beautiful colorful morning in McLeodganj, we all packed and prepared to leave. The weather was wonderful outside and we were all set to see the church. On our way to the church, we spotted the amazing snow-capped mountains, huge and magnificent! That day, as we expected the church was way less crowded. There were some tourists, but not as much as on the day of Christmas. The church was very rustic yet very authentic and beautiful! The aura gave me a feeling of early 19oos or 1800s! The church spoke history through its walls and windows!! Simply amazing, quiet and peaceful!

Next, we started our journey towards our next destination Dalhousie! This was the first time I was going there, basically, all the destinations on this trip were new to me. While we were approaching Dalhousie we started to see the Tibetan influence all over! The roads had yellow and red borders and installations that I don’t know the name of. It was under ITBP (Indo-Tibetian Border Police). It looked really beautiful and very unique! There was, I guess a sort of museum, where some warfare were displayed. Soon after we crossed that area, we started spotting snow which only grew as we neared Dalhousie!

We reached our hotel “Alps Holiday Resort” which we booked in McLeodganj through goibibo. The moment we stepped out of the car and looked behind, there was a lot of snow! I never expected snow in Dalhousie! I was extremely happy and surprised! We played for a few minutes there and headed to our room. The hotel wasn’t very good. It was had okay rooms and okay facilities. The service wasn’t very good but we managed somehow, thankfully there was a room heater which was a necessity there! The outdoor lawn of the hotel was its best part. There were some chair and tables arranged in the lawn and there was a lovely treehouse! I couldn’t stop myself but go and sit there for a while!

Before sunset, we decided to go on a drive and we were amazed to find snow-clad roads where driving was ecstatic yet a little scary. Okay, a lot scary for the driver 😀 Especially when a car coming from the other side downhill there is always a danger of skidding. But I must say it looked beautiful and felt awesome. You can see all of this in the vlog that I have attached below. When it started to get dark we didn’t really want to stay on the snowy roads so we headed back to the hotel, had our dinner and slept early.

The next morning I woke up early to see the view outside, but there wasn’t much. Trees and other hotels blocked everything. We then got ready packed and checked out from the hotel and headed towards our next destination Khajjiar. This was one place I really wanted to go after looking at some pictures online. On our way not far from the hotel we spotted the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary Gate. We didn’t know what was that but we knew that it was a well-known tourist spot. People said the car won’t be able to go there today and we would need to walk. We decided to skip that and enjoy the snowclad huts with a lot of soft and fresh snow! We were there early and so we could enjoy the really fluffy and soft snow and had a great time there! The huts looked surreal, picturesque and that is something I would remember all my life! This was the first time I saw a whole town covered in snow and not just one spot!

Since Khajjiar is in the valley, we first go uphill and then descend downhill. The hotel people from Dalhousie told us that Khajjiar was closed the day we reached Dalhousie and it might open up the next day if we get lucky. I guess we did get lucky and after crossing a lot of snow-clad, icy and slippery roads we were finally on a clean route and clearly, the snow got molten away. It was sunny and green! Around noon we reached Khajjiar and I could see the very popular grassland with a lake in the center. It was surrounded by huge pine trees and it looking breathtakingly beautiful!! We parked the car and went on to take a stroll and sit and enjoy the beauty.

We went to the lake-side huts and roamed around, saw a kind of ancient temple and Shaurya did the paragliding which you can see in the vlog as every other thing. The lake had very less water may be because of winters and there was snow last night which all was molten as the grass was wet and withered. We had a cup of tea and took some pictures and left. This time we were headed towards home which was a long way from there but again home is only another destination and the journey should never end!
